3rd Wokingham Methodist Brownie Pack
Brownies are wonderful!
Brownies is full, with 24 girls currently attending. At Christmas we lost two wonderful leaders. Joyce Dunning played a key part in restarting and running the 3rd Wokingham (Methodist) Brownies and has been a fantastic and inspirational leader over the past 20 years. As well as the weekly meetings, Joyce planned and ran excellent pack holidays, which were the highlight of Brownies for many of the attendees. Both Joyce, and Barbara Petersen, who had been helping for a number of years now, will be solely missed. They have been replaced by one of our former Brownies, recently returned from university.
For the last two terms we have been doing food based activities. This has included visits to supermarkets, including Tesco and Morrisons, and tours round a number of farms in the area. This term we have moved onto looking at the work of food charities. The Salvation Army visited us a few weeks ago, with the Food Bank and Fairtrade also featuring on this terms programme. My personal highlight was the evening we spent baking for 'Bed for the Night' – the homeless shelter run by Reading Churches in church halls during the cold winter months. 12 Brownies gave up one evening of their half term holidays to bake brownies (of course!) and cookies, which were then very much enjoyed by those attending Bed for the Night.
