mhaLogoMethodist Homes for the Aged

How did it start?

Work began in 1943.  The vision of a group of Methodists, to improve the lives of isolated older people, led to the first home in 1945 offering care and support to 12 older people, meeting their needs regardless of their faith.

In 2010 MHA cares for 12,500 older people in more than 150 projects throughout Britain.  Society has changed, needs are different but the aim is still the same: to improve the quality of life for older people, inspired by Christian concern.

MHA projects offer residential, nursing and dementia care, supported retirement housing, day care and support in the community.  The aim is to provide the full range of support relevant to the needs of older people, from companionship to intensive 24 hour nursing care.  The philosophy of care appreciates and values each person as an individual and as a Christian organisation they recognise the spiritual needs of all those involved in the work.

Why your help is needed

MHA is a charity and any surplus funds are used to develop and extend the services they offer.  Charitable gifts also help to provide the extra resources that make a difference to the lives of the older people for whom it is a privilege to care.

PilgrimAGEWPilgrimAGE: Life is a journey, made up of many complicated routes and often unexpected diversions.  As we grow older we reflect on our experiences, sometimes prompted by a passing thought or memory, each precious to us along the road of our personal pilgrimage.
