GardenerRose St. Gardeners

Thank you to everyone who supported our plant sales, both as customers and as suppliers of plants.  Our seven Saturday morning sales outside the Meeting Place were very successful despite the variable weather, and attracted our usual Church members along with visitors and passers-by, many of whom have also become regulars.  It is very satisfying to hear the compliments about the plants they purchased previously, and their interest in growing them again.

Anthemis_tinctoriaPlants particularly in demand included our usual tomatoes and trailing geraniums, plus a wide range of specialist perennials such as our famous ‘yellow daisies’ that bloom all summer (the Anthemis) and the range of Salvias we have been selling.  This year we also sold more vegetables such as courgettes, sweet peppers and runner beans reflecting the trend towards ‘grow your own’, especially by relatively new gardeners who came and sought our advice before they went off with their plants.  Together with orders from our regulars, the plant sales raised over £1500.  We also received over £500 from donations for a range of garden ‘Ground force’ projects, enabling us so far this year to contribute over £2000 to support Church Activities and Charities.

We also appreciate all the very positive comments about the Church Gardens, now well developed with the shrubs, roses and clematis in particular all taking off.  We suffered a lot of frost damage to the shrubs in the beds by M&S, especially to the Choisya, but hopefully the hard pruning we gave them, plus some sunshine, will restore the side beds to full health before too long.

We hope all your plants grow well.
