3rd Wokingham (Methodist) Guides
We have had a very successful year, with our usual mix of activities including crafts & games, both indoors and outside. Anything related to food (especially chocolate) has, as always, proved popular. The Guides have also enjoyed their visits to Suffolk Lodge and that is now featuring as a regular item on our programme. We returned to Heron’s Wey for our 2009 summer camp where the Brownies joined us for a day. The rather mixed weather failed to dampen our spirits – we got some good photos of the joys of camping in the rain!
The second half of the year has been dominated by the centenary celebrations (and 90 years of Guiding at Rose Street). In February we hosted the division Thinking Day service here. The church was almost full with Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section & Trefoil Guild from across Wokingham. (It was a pity they didn’t know the hymns better!)
The unit now has over 30 Guides and with Janet moving on to pastures new we are struggling to maintain the adult to girls ratio. We are coping with a parent rota but would greatly welcome any help from church members, especially anyone who could help fairly regularly. The age range remains on the young side as we tend to lose a proportion of 12 & 13 year olds each year who are replaced by 10 year olds.
