CONTACT

Our friendly and informal group is part of the wider organisation, Network. In many ways we are a ladies’ group, but for a long time now our meetings have been open to, and we hope of interest to, the gentlemen, and it has been a pleasure to welcome them along.
We meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 8.00 p.m., in the Rose Room, (except for our Christmas get-together, which takes place in the Bradbury Centre) and we meet every month except for July and August. Over the last year we have enjoyed everything from the World Premiere of a new talk from Tony King, learned more about fire safety in the home, the strange and funny things that happen to teachers, and caught up with news about Project Gateway. We have also managed to fit in a most enjoyable Harvest Supper and Christmas Party. Again we decorated a tree for the Christmas Tree Festival and enjoyed a sunny and inspiring day trip to Daffodil Day. We are trying to work more closely with our friends at MORS to publicise events, and realise how well we work together when we see the success of our Harvest Supper.
Our meetings usually last about an hour, with an opportunity to have a cup of tea and chat afterwards, and offer a real opportunity to learn more about a wide variety of subjects and make new friends. Come along and join us when you can.

Monthly Report
In June, our last Contact meeting for the year was a visit to Fred and Nina Preston’s lovely garden. They do indeed manage to fill every corner of their garden with interest, and we had a lovely, fine evening with lots to see and a cream tea with warm home made scones. What could have been better? We were delighted to donate to them the £118 raised by our ticket sales on the evening, which will be sent to the Thames Valley Air Ambulance and the National Gardens Scheme, which has chosen Arthritis Research as its Guest Charity this year.
Our next meeting will be:
Wednesday 22 September - 8.00 p.m. in the Rose Room
PCSOs – What is a Police Community Support Officer?
Marie Maloney will join us to tell us more about the role and work of Police Community Support Officers – why are they there, what do they do, and what are their powers? Many of you will know our local PCSOs from seeing them around the town, even if you have not met them, although they frequently pop into the Bradbury Centre, and can sometimes be seen with the young people at the Youth Café. As ever, the gentlemen are warmly invited to join us.
Saturday 2 October Harvest – Joint Supper with MORS
Please check the separate notice.
On 27 October, Dilys Corlett joins us to tell us more about her marathon in Egypt. In November 2009 Dilys travelled to Egypt to do an Alzheimer’s charity trek through the Sinai desert. Hear her story of 5 days strenuous trekking through desert mountains, living a basic nomadic life.
Don’t forget to make a note in your diaries to join us on 24 November for our next Meeting, and on 15 December for our Christmas Party.
We look forward to seeing you.
