House Groups

Monday Evening House Group

Meets: 2nd & 4th Monday of each month in a Member’s home at 20:00.

Contact: Christine Morgan

Our aim is to learn more about our faith as well as getting to know each other better.

The group (around 10-12 members) meets twice monthly at 8pm, mainly in the home of a member. We study bible-based material, most recently going through a series of studies exploring the meaning of faith in the world of politics. Our meetings are very informal with time for coffee and chat as well as study. Our aim is to learn more about our faith as well as getting to know each other better. You would be very welcome to join us!

Having completed the Espresso bible, we moved onto a series of four studies on "The Art of the Possible" - exploring the meaning of faith in the world of politics. As part of ‘Our God in Politics and Public Life’ theme, Brian Gennery, from The Church@the Pines spoke to us about Ethical Investment - he is a member of the Joint Advisory Council on Ethical Investment which advises the Methodist Church on its £1 billion investment portfolio. Currently (March 2010) we are following ‘Life Calling’ a Lent course exploring the meaning of vocation.

Bible Study Group

Meets: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month in the Bradbury Centre at 14:00.

Contact: Rosi Morgan-Barry

This is a new Group formed to study the Bible with reference to its relevance to the 21st Century. We are a group with a variety of ideas and opinions, and look forward to some lively discussions.

Thursday-At-Two House Group

Meets: 1st & 3rd Thursdays in the month in a Member’s home at 14:00.

Contact: Jim Horsnell

The Group started in September 2002. There are eleven people in the Group at present and we meet in a member's home. The meetings last an hour followed by tea and biscuits. The Group meets for prayer, discussion and fellowship, sharing their concerns for one another, the Church Family and the Community. We use the excellent ecumenical discussion series of York Courses. These provide the means of our being helped to learn more about the Christian Faith, to tackle questions arising from endeavouring to practice that faith in our daily lives and at the same time to take a closer look together at what we believe and why.

The most recent projects we have supported financially through our “thank-you God for our fellowship” jar have been the “Gateway Project” in South Africa (£40) and the Bible Society “Bibles for China” appeal (£40).

Currently (March 2010) our discussions are on the theme “Can we build a better world”.
