Music Group

The music group practises on a monthly basis at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings. We prepare music for services and we have started practising light music for the Revels. We currently have a core of eight players on string, wind and percussion instruments: violin, viola, flute, recorder/guitar, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone and timpani. Luckily these instruments allow us to cover a large range of parts from high treble down to the bass clef. We would like to thank Peter Stephenson for his lead on the piano until his recent retirement due to his other commitments, he has been invaluable in holding the group together. Since Peter’s departure Steve Downes us on the piano for our last rehearsal and we were very grateful to him for stepping in and hope that he will be able to lead us again on other occasions.
We would really welcome any other players who would be interested in joining us and other pianists who feel they could help on an occasional basis. In particular a few more string players and some brass players would give us more of a full balance of orchestral parts.
We are pleased that we attract a large age range of members with everyone contributing a vital part. Any new learners would also be welcome to come along and play as much as they feel comfortable with. Younger players often enjoy changing to percussion instruments for some items. If there is anyone in the congregation who feels they could lead the group if only at times we would be grateful for any help and support. Please talk to any member of the group if you would like to find out more.
